Some of our 'yarnworkers'

Pray shawl ministries are growing in congregations across the country as knitters and crocheters come together to pray, to grow spiritually and to reach out to other with prayerfully made shawls to provide confort in times of need.

Stories from two sister churches in our Conference of the United Methodist Church led to the beginning of this new group. (Churches in Davis and Turlock have begun this ministry in the recent past and have witnesses growing faither as their congregation has become involved and as the shawls have brough love and pragyers to those who receive them.)

How does this WORK?

As the group meets weekly to work on individual shawls, we join in devotions, prayers and sharing of our lives, praying for ourselves, our group and for those we will surround with a shawl full of prayers. As our lives are enriched by focusing on deepening our spirituality, that growth is reflected in all we do and especially in the shawls we make.

Ready for the blessing

As the shawls are finished, they are blessed during Sunday church services, to refelcdt the sacredness of this ministry and to include the entire Community as we reach out with God's love.

Shawls may be any color, yarn, pattern, may be made for one specific person, or may be prayerfully made for an unknown recipient. As we work together we'll form a list of those in need of a shawl. The need may be due to health challenges, loss of a loved one, or may be celebratory; the adoption or birth of a child, a baptism, a wedding, a farewell of any sort... so many of life's events require prayerful recognition!

Please joing us as we meet in the Wesley Chapel each Wednesday morning at 9 AM and on the first Saturday of each month at 10 AM.
