We are a new Church, but we have history

CrossAndTree.jpg

We are the newest United Methodist Church in the Fresno District! In 2002, Ken and Debbie Gudger started putting together a list of people who wanted to be part of a new church in the mountains. The first "official" meeting was at their house in June of that year. Nine people showed up.

By 2006 a couple hundred of us gathered for worship every Sunday morning. During the week, we meet in Women's and Men's Study Groups, Clothing, Meal, Backpack, Prayer Shawl and Banner Ministry Teams. Many of us volunteer in our thrift store.

In between our first gathering and today, we have celebrated a number of milestones. For most of us, the list would look a little different --but most lists would probably include the following events:

Open Door, Open Hearts, Open Minds

September 2002 -- Our first monthly Sunday Afternoon gathering

February 2003 -- We gathered to reflect on our mission and vision and discover a name for our new church.

March 2003 -- The conference introduces Jim as our first pastor.

April 2003 -- We gather for worship on Easter Sunday under the leadership of our District Superintendent, Rev. Vickie Healy. For the next 13 Sundays, a variety of leaders form our throughout our conference preach and lead worship.

September 2003 -- Spiritsong! begins as we move to two Sunday services.

April 4, 2004 -- Bishop Beverly Shamana leads worship as we receive our charter as a United Methodist Church.

June 2004 -- Rev. Diana is appointed by the Bishop to serve our growing faith community

September 2004 -- Our first Community Meal is served. One guest shows up. Now we serve between 100 and 140 meals each Wednesday evening.

September 2005 -- Mountainsong! is introduced as our third worship experience.

November 2005 -- After a period of study and reflection, the Leadership Team makes the decision to become a Reconciling Congregation.

This Sunday, 2008 -- We gather for worship and fellowship, celebrating our core values of unending hospitality, making it easy to get involved, embracing change, creating a safe place to tell our stories and sharing meaningful and relevant experiences. We invite you to join us!
